- We have opened some more places in the coming Short Course Race due to
the overwhelming responses. If you are interested, please make the
application as soon as possible.
- Fibre Glass Boats will be the only type of dragon boat for the races
in Short Course Race.

2010 Big Races All results
- We have to thank all participants
(including the competitors, officials, spectators and sponsors) for
their support and cooperation to make the event so smooth and successful
and accomplished on time. The atmosphere and competition standard stayed
high on the day. All this will not be possible without your help. We
have to thank you again and again.

1. NO re-race after 50-meter mark,
even if collision happens.
2. If the steerer “PUSH” the handrail of starting pontoon >> DQ ;
3. All protests (抗議)&
appeals (上訴)must
be lodged in writing and submitted with the appropriate fee designated by
the organizer (HK$500 & HK$1000 respectively ). IDBF
protest forms & IDBF appeal forms will be available at information
booth, and must be signed by Team Manager.
4. all team affairs dealing with the organizer should only be handled by the
team manager, and with the team card shown.

- Reminder - Pre-race Team
Managers Meeting will be held from 6pm to 7:30pm on 6 June (Sunday).
This is an important meeting in which race programme and other race info
will be dispatched. Team Managers/ Captains/ Coachers should attend.
Bring a pen and notepad for jotting down notes. It will start on time
and will not wait for anyone. (see
map here ). Briefing for
overseas teams will be held 6pm the evening before race day, or by
special arrangement with the organiser.
- Meeting for Race Officials
will be held right afterwards at the Training Base at the
Beach ( dinner provided). Register with your group leader. RO should
also attend the Team Managers Meeting.
- Besides, Race Manual
has been revised and ready for download now. The print-out
version of it is also available for all teams during official practice
sessions in May- June at the beach. One copy for each team (

- Please read notice of special sea traffic
arrangements regarding restriction of pleasure boats around the racing
area at Stanley Main Beach. (download

Racing Manual and Rules have just been
updated and shown in our web site. Teams taking part in any one of our 3
regattas can also claim a hard copy which will be ready for pick up from
this Friday 21 May onwards during official training sessions at the
weekend (or during Team Managers Meetings ). Please approach our staff
to claim one ( one copy per team, in which you can find important
information like guidelines for participants, racing
rules, steersman registration, safety
guidelines, pleasure boat registration, motor boat and water traffic
guidelines, etc.)
- Re: The use of Fibre Glass Boat during coming practices and main
race -
Please note that we have finalized the type of boat used for the
Sun Life Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships 2010 (16/6).
We will use the Fibre Glass Boat in all the divisions in Orange
Group. Please refer to the schedule of 2009 for reference.
We will release the schedule of 2010 on 6/6 (Team Managers’
Meeting). For your information, mainly Division Men A, Men B and
Ladies will use the new boats. Booking will be on first come first
serve basis during the practice time. Each hour we will have 4 Fibre
Glass Boats. Teams haven’t used the new boats before will have
priority. Attached please find the 2009 schedule. Thank you.

- Stanley Dragon
Boat Assn organises again a short Race Official course ( in Cantonese)
on 19 May.
Interested parties should

the form for details.

fibre-glass dragon boats
- It will be the peak season of dragon
boat practice and wind surfing starting from 1st May and the sea-lane
will be very busy. Please pay extra attentions when rowing on boats
especially for steersmen and participants. Thank you.
- Changing of rules in Stanley Races (First News 2010) -Please be
informed that Stanley Dragon Boat Assn is changing some of the rules as
follows. Such amendments are a result of observation and debate over the
years, and our effort to make our Rules and Regulations more closely in
line with those of IDBF. In a nutshell, (1) We will allow paddles to
stay in water as a “ready position”; (2) we no longer make it compulsory
to ask the steersman to keep the blade of the steering rudder in water (
as long as NO forward propelling force is created as such).

- Weather services for dragon boaters at
Stanley - The Hong Kong Observatory has launched a webpage for
windsurfers (http://www.hko.gov.hk/sports/ttbc.htm
) in January 2010, following HKO's involvement in the East Asian Games
in 2009. Yet, you may also find the information useful for our dragon
boating activities. In the webpage, wind
forecast at Stanley from 7 am to 6 pm is given every day - the hourly
weather forecast and the latest weather information, plus photo of
Stanley Main Beach (Tai Tam Bay) in the last 15 min. In the display, there are also (a)
link to lightning alert; (b) latest weather forecast for the whole HK;
(c) weather warning.
- We have launched a
Facebook group to dispatch news regarding Sun Life Stanley
International Dragon Boat Championships 2010 . Click to join.
- Stanley Dragon
Boat Assn will organises again her own one-night Race Official course ( in Cantonese,
with 2 practicals in our regattas). Stay tuned for details. Probably the
course will be run in early May in Kowloon.

- SDBA just helped HK Blind Sport Assn
build a dragon boat team - SDBA provided supports on
liaison and team uniform. Moreover, our vice-chairman acts as consultant

You are welcome to be volunteer or patron of the team.

available now- 3 sections instead of 4 along the hull.

no long further divide into Chinese and Expat classes.
- In the smaller "Short Course
Races", we are introducing the Post-secondary classes in 2010.

Short Course Races - please be reminded that Team Managers Meeting
will be put forward to 8:15am at the beach. In case the Team Manager of
your team is not available, make sure the team caption or a
representative attends it on his behalf. Make sure the
racing manual and
rules of the event are read in advance (please download and bring it
for reference )

jot down announcement during the meeting. There are quite a lot to
announce.

Stanley Short Course Races going
to be staged tomorrow is also included in the Affiliate Membership
Scheme of
IDBF, as well as "Dragon
Boat World International" magazine, showing its recognition not just
locally but also internationally. Thank you for all the support from
racing teams, races officials, helpers, sponsors as well as assisting
parties for joining hands to accomplish this.

REMINDER
FOR SAFETY - Please pay attention to safety. Come joyfully and return
home joyfully. All individuals have responsibility to look after
personal safety. Team managers also have the duty to ensure team members
notice the importance of it.
When you or your team are in a boat, or anywhere around the shore, being
drunken will put you in a very dangerous situation. Do not misuse
alcohol and invite accident.

Due to
installation of Seiko photo-finishing equipment which provides official
images to decide finishing time and position, all protest against race
results, once officially submitted, will be entitled to view this photo
only, instead of the video as stated in the "Protest Form".

Team Managers
Meeting to be held on Sunday 17 May at Stanley Community Hall will
be postponed to 6pm (1 and half hour duration). (See
location map here ). This
is an important meeting. If your team cannot send the Team Manager,
please send a delegate, e.g. Captain, coach, etc.
- More team shirt
options for your order now. We now have long-sleeve racing T-shirts for
order. Your own team logo and sponsor logos can be printed and design
can be tailor made. They can be ordered separately or as extra order on
top of the 20 souvenir T-shirts for the Tuen Ng Stanley Int'l
Championships.
