Note :
(1) Unless specified, all
rules for the mega event as well as terms in the
Racing Manual for Tuen Ng Festival also apply to the 2
smaller events, including the Warm-up Races and Short Course Races.
Team Managers should download and familiarize with the rules in
advance, and ready to attend Team Managers' Briefing (30 min before the
first race ) on the day.¡@
As endorsed by IDBF and HKDBA, these 2 events automatically are included
in the "IDBF Affiliate Festival Scheme",
following the inclusion of the Stanley International Festival in 2007.
As such or rules and regulation will be close to IDBF
requirements. However, please read our news update and race manual for
discrepancies which results from the constraints of the organiser.
(2) all genuine out-of-town entries
(including Macau and Mainland teams ) can enjoy the privilege of their
entry fees waived. Please fill in entry form
and contact the secretariat at once.
(3)If your team did not join our
International Championship this year, team manager can claim a copy of
the Racing Manual (hard copy) before the first race.
(4) This Warm-up
Races as well as the Stanley Short Course Races both differ
slightly from the mega event of Stanley Tuen Ng Festival championships
in terms of rules and format, such as there will only be three groups
for entry (Men's, Ladies' and mixed events) without further
classification and grading and a shorter
course, etc. ) Also 18 paddlers only.
Sitting style for paddlers compulsory.
(5)To
ease your trouble of sourcing and bringing sun-blocking canopies, the
SDBA has stocked some standard 10 feet x 10 feet (3m x 3m) alumnium-frame
booth style tents for teams to hire.(
Prices differ in various events -HK$500 for the Short Course
and Warm-up Races) [ foreign teams will get
booths free ]
(6)The Stanley Short Course Race is now affiliate into of the newly
established "HK
Dragon Boat League" as a leg of the series. The best local team
in Men's Gold Cup Final will be invited to take part the HK Dragon Boat
Championships (Premier Class) organized by
HKDBA in the coming
year, with entry fee waived.

Event
History
(about Stanley Dragon Boat Short Course Races and Warm Up Races)
Responding to increasing support and rising paddlers population, as
well as stronger demand, The Stanley Residents Assn (SDBA) and Stanley
Residents Assn (SRA) have endeavoured to organize more regular events in
the year, on top of the yearly
Tuen Ng Festival
International Championships in June, as well as the longer training
seasons. It is in such context the 2 "smaller" events were introduced,
which steadily grow and have gained reputation among dragon boaters of
different levels. The idea of an extra event was humbly kicked off in
2001 with only 18 teams joining the first Stanley Short Course Race in a
trial out atmosphere at Stanley Bay (though our mega event already
attracts more than a hundred team and had been world-famous in that
year). Then it grows steadily in size and reputation and relocated to
Stanley Main Beach to coincide with the launch of the new
Dragon Boat Training Base. Then in 2007, as requested by the
District Office of the Home Affairs Dept to be re-named as Reunification
Cup. Then in 2009 it attracts nearly 100 teams (see the chart below) and
the 2 events were also listed in the international racing calendar of
the IDBF international magazine 09 Spring issue.

SDBA is proud to be the first organizer to introduce the idea of 200
meter dragon boat dash in Hong Kong (similar to 60m running dash in
athletics). Before the inception of the Stanley Short Course race in
year 2001, 200m DB race is not heard of in the local arena. Then it
created an impact and affected many local organizers to follow suit. Now
even in national championships and IDBF championships it has become one
of the major course length options that organizers should consider.
In 2006, with the
great success of our "New-boats-launching
Ceremony cum Warm-up Competition" at
Stanley Main
Beach , SDBA and SRA decided to make it another regular
event
in her calendar ( one before one after Tuen Ng Festival, with the former
usually staged on May 1 Labour Day or Buddha's Birthday public holiday
). Since then, SDBA ( a subsidiary of SRA) becomes one of the
very few organizations in the world (not just n HK or China) capable of
staging consistently 3 regattas within a year .
After 2 years of the staging successfully the "HKU
Invitational Races" in 2007 and 2008 in the
Short Course Races, SDBA decided in 2009 to expand it to become an
official category for all Post-secondary institutions and glad to see
Macau University in the event. There was aslo a special and new category
in 2009 for Secondary Schools in the Warm-Up Races. Another Macau team
joined the event.
When the year 2010 arrives,
IDBF
and
HKDBA
confirmed that these 2 "smaller" events are automatically also included
in the "IDBF Affiliate Festival Scheme", as a
natural consequence of the inclusion of the Stanley International
Championship (our mega event ) into the scheme in 2007 (actually Stanley
is among the first batch of organisers in the world and the only "club"
in HK to be included in the scheme).
Moreover, Stanley Short Course Race
is just invited by HKDBA to be incorporated as a leg of the series of
the newly established Hong Kong Dragon Boat League. |
